IGF::OT::IGF CONTRACT NNC15BA11B RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGIES FOR AEROSPACE PROPULSION SYSTEMS 2 - RTAPS 2 INCLUDES TECHNOLOGY AREA(2), THREE(3), AND FOUR(4). DEVELOP, DEMONSTRATE, AND VERIFY ADVANCED PROPULSION AND COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM TECHNOLOGIES AS PART OF NASA'S ONGOING, LONG-TERM AEROSPACE RESEARCH PROGRAMS. SUCCESSFUL TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT IN SPACE PROPULSION (TECHNOLOGY AREA 2) WILL ENABLE MISSIONS WITH HIGHER PERFORMANCE, REDUCED COST, IMPROVED OPERABILITY/RELIABILITY, AND IMPROVED SAFETY. MISSION APPLICATIONS WILL SPAN THE ENTIRE CONTINUUM WHERE SPACE PROPULSION IS TYPICALLY USED FROM ASCENT THROUGH IN-SPACE OPERATIONS INCLUDING RETURN PHASES. BOEING RESEARCH IN THE AREA OF SPACE COMMUNICATION WILL ENABLE FUTURE NASA SPACE MISSIONS BY DEVELOPING TECHNOLOGIES THAT ACHIEVE IMPROVEMENTS IN COMMUNICATION DATA RATES AND NAVIGATION PRECISION, WHICH ARE NEEDED FOR FUTURE MISSIONS AND WILL ENABLE ENTIRELY NEW MISSION CONCEPTS. (TECHNOLOGY AREA 4). UNDER THE AERONAUTICS RESEARCH MISSION DIRECTORATE, BOEING WILL CONDUCT FUNDAMENTAL, CUT-TING-EDGE RESEARCH INTO NEW AIRCRAFT TECHNOLOGIES AS WELL AS INTEGRATION OF NEW OPERATIONS CON-CEPTS AND TECHNOLOGIES INTO THE NEXT GENERATION AIR TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM. COMMUNICATIONS, NAVIGATION, SURVEILLANCE AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT WILL SUPPORT THE GOALS TO ENABLE INCREASING AIRSPACE SYSTEM CAPACITY AND EFFICIENCY, IMPROVING AVIATION SYSTEM SAFETY, AND ADVANCING THE INTEGRATION OF UNMANNED AIRCRAFT INTO THE NATIONAL AIRSPACE SYSTEM (TECHNOLOGY AREA 3).
